10/7/13 Framing Exercise Workbook #5 This story is definitely framed negatively at first. The title is, “ Calm, Historic Chilton Avenue Now on Alert With Presence of Level 3 Sex Offenders.” Automatically as one reads this they become alarmed. However as the article continued the tone changed. The article seemed to change the direction it was going in. It became more of an informative and alarming article. The article was directed to show the lives of people who lived in the same areas as sex offenders. The article offered details of the crimes that the two sex offenders committed. This wasn’t biased because it was hard facts. The article

Unformatted text preview: then went on to show what neighbors thought and how they reacted when being informed late about sex offenders moving in. The framing in this article was to alarm readers and inform them on the dangers that sex offenders bring when living nearby. The message presentation was to inform people and let them know what was going on. I agree with how this story was framed. I would have not framed this differently if I was the news editor because I think it is very important and necessary for people that dangerous people are everywhere and everyone should be informed....
