Erika Muccio Psychology Chapter 2: 1. Goal of the Scientific Enterprise: Measurement and Description: requires that a researcher figure out a way to measure the phenomenon under study. Understanding and prediction: A higher level goal of science is understanding. A hypothesis is a tentative statement about the relationship between two or more variables. Variables are the measurable conditions, events, or behaviors that are controlled or observed in a study. Application and Control: Most scientists hope that the information they gather will be of some practical value in helping to solve everyday problems. A theory is a system of interrelated ideas used to explain a set of observations. 2. Steps in Scientific Investigation: Step 1: To translate a theory or an idea into a testable hypothesis. The actions or operations that will be used to measure or control a variable. Step 2: Select the Research method and design the study. To figure out how to put the hypothesis to an empirical test.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
