Origin of Life Review: On AP: need to know origin of life, not as much of human evolution -describe early conditions on early earth -characteristics of primates 1. Spontaneous origin of life processes: a) Synthesis of organic molecules (monomers) b) join small molecules into macromolecules (amino acids into proteins) c) packaging of molecules " protobionts " (membranes) to isolate it from outside d) self replicating molecules DNA/RNA (reproduce)-RNA evolved first 2. ON AP TEST Conditions on Early Earth: -reducing atmosphere (non oxygen present; not breaking things down) -H2O, CO2, N2, NOx, H2, NH3, CH4, H2S (know some of these-3 or four) -carbon dioxide and methane (source of carbon) -no free oxygen -energy source-lightning, UV, volcanic miller experiment -didn't have an ozone layer in the beginning bc no oxygen (O3) Miller-Urey Experiment-abiotic synthesis theory -combined above gases (inorganic gases-list them) -created a water cycle, water going through closed system -add heat -used electrodes for spark/energy to form bonds -use condenser to cool off and collect the organic products (amino acids) 3. Panspermia: life came from elsewhere and seeded Earth -Pros (reasons it could be true): -bacteria on lunar probe -meteorites from Mars -Cons (reasons it could be wrong): -can life survive long journey into space 4. As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
