Unformatted text preview: value in a list – QUARTILE.INC and QUARTILE.EXC identify the value at a specific quartile – PERCENTILE.INC and PERCENTILE.EXC identify the kth percentile of a value – New in Excel 2010 is a descriptor added to the function name. Functions with the .INC descriptor indicates inclusive functions meaning the functions include particular parameters. The .EXC descriptor indicates exclusive functions, meaning the functions exclude particular parameters. The .EQ descriptor indicates that the function is equivalent to the RANK function in previous versions. DATA ANALYSIS • Allows you to easily perform many common statistical calculations: – Descriptive Statistics (mean, median, mode, variance, standard deviation, range, etc.) – Histogram – Covariance, Correlation – Regression – Random Number Generation • If the option does not appear, go to: – Customize quick access toolbar (right click) on the Office button Customize Quick Access Toolbar 15 Excel Notes Data Analysis Jessica Gahtan OMIS2000 Descriptive Statistics • Open the Grades.xls spreadsheet • Select the Marks column of data • Select Data Analysis - > Descriptive Statistics • Compare the difference between using Data Analysis and formulas – If values change, formulas will recalculate, but Data Analysis results are stored as numerical values and therefore do not update. Histogram • You can analyze your data and display it in a histogram with the Histogram tool of the Analysis ToolPak. • Histogram ranges can be automatically chosen by Excel, or can be specified by the user using the Bin Range. • Histogram bars don’t automatically join up, but this can easily be fixed.
