Sydney Schubert Dunch Philosophy 100-14 23 November 2012 Suicide There are many issues that occur throughout time that make people curious; abortion, parenthood, theft, adoption and suicide are just some examples of ethical issues that make people think. Although some don’t occur daily to some people, each is common and occurs almost daily around the world. Suicide is ethically wrong according to Aristotle because it is unjust by violating happiness through virtue, and according to Immanuel Kant, suicide is wrong because it is contradictory to life by violating the universal moral law. Defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary, suicide is “the act or an instance of taking one’s own life voluntarily and intentionally especially by a person of years of discretion and of sound mind” (PAGE #). Aristotle believes that a life, or nature, through virtue, ultimately leads to a nature of happiness. Happiness is an activity of the soul in compliance with virtue. To obtain happiness, one must live in accordance with virtue.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
