Sydney Schubert Dr. Helmer Theology 111-05 20 February 2013 Midterm Examination – Question Four Richard Dawkins says that “people like to say that faith and science can live together side by side, but I don’t think they can; they are deeply opposed. Science is a discipline of investigation and constructive doubt questioning the logic, evidence, and reason to draw conclusions. Faith demands a positive dispensation of positive critical faculties.” Dawkins uses the word evidence many times throughout the film to further explain his opinions of religion and science. Dawkins believes that religion strives on unsolved mysteries. He asks: how do we know about things? How do we know about things such as dinosaurs, the earth, etc.? He simply answers, “Evidence; mutual supporting evidence.” We use evidence to update theories. Dawkins argues that scientific belief ought to have overturned traditional religious belief, but that it has not actually done so because the point of faith is that massive physical evidence cuts no ice.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
