Unformatted text preview: Systems 5.  In chains with an odd number of carbon atoms (e.g., 3- carbon chain, 5- carbon chain, etc.): a)  all molecular orbitals that are an0symmetric (A) with respect to the mirror plane must have zero contribu0ons from the central atom. ↳  i.e., there is a node at the loca0on of the central atom, which is shown as a dot with no associated p- orbital contribu0on. b)  there will be one nonbonding molecular orbital.
