Early Childhood Final Dr. Miller 1. To expand the child’s senses, if we do not place new objects and tasks in front of kids, it may take them longer to explore and understand their 5 senses. 2. a) Tasting - Have 4 basic tastes (sour, salty, bitter, and sweet), and have the children all get a sample of 2 different food items in each category. Ex- sour = pickle, and a lemon. Have the kids select if they liked the taste or not. b) Touching - Have a bag or box with a hole for the kids to put their hands into, have them reach in and try and identify what the mystery item is inside of the box or bag without seeing it. c) Seeing - Get several items and put them in front of you, have the kids take a look, then have them close their eyes, and remove 1 item, and have the kids as a group guess at what you took. d) Hearing - Use film canisters, and put a different object in each, make a note card with a picture and label of what is in each tube, have kids shake them and try and guess what is in the tubes. e)
