Focus industries as of the end of 2007 include cement manufacturing, corn refining, food processing, glass manu­ facturing, motor vehicle manufacturing, petrochemical processing, petroleum refining, pharmaceuticals, pulp & paper, and waste and wastewater. Value to environment: Energy efficiency is one of the lowest-cost strategies available to address global climate change. In 2006 alone, actions taken by Energy Star ’s industrial partners helped to avoid the emission of 6.5 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions, equivalent to the emissions of more than 4 million cars, while saving $2 billion in energy costs.
