Hang Up the Hook-Up On Thursday, April 3, Bring Back the Date, SYE, and the Wellness Initiative hosted guest speakers John-Michael Scott and Amy Segner, two dating specialists. The two speakers both boast a commitment to helping others achieve dating goals and improving the overall dating experience. During the lecture, which actually turned out to be a seminar “Dating 101”, Colgate students were asked to discuss myths surrounding dating, issues surrounding the hook-up culture, and how to establish healthy relationships, both romantic and platonic. Dating at Colgate There was a very fairly mixed bag of attendees at the lecture as far as race, sex, sexual orientation and relationship status. More women did show up than men, which could mean that women at Colgate see the hook-up culture as a less attractive alternative to dating than men do. This is further supported by the fact that Bring Back the Date is exclusively composed of women. There were both couples and singles there, a wide range of races and ethnicities, and some persons who identified as heterosexual or
