The Farmhouse Michael, a young boy around the age of nine, is horribly disappointed when he is told that his parents are leaving on vacation and will be dropping him off to spend, “quality time” with his grandparents at their farm in the country. Michael is beside himself, but no amount of pleading will change his parent’s minds or save him from a boring visit out at the farm. Michael’s grandparents are old fashioned, stuck in their ways, and are crazy enough to not even own a TV. To spend three weeks without TV, for Michael, is unthinkable. When they arrive, they are, of course, greeted warmly by Gram and much less so by Papaw via a firm handshake. The farm is even more terrible than Michael had remembered from two years ago. Everything at the farm is old and smells like animals. Dogs and hermit crabs are okay, but in general, Michael has a disdain for most hairy and drooling creatures. The TV is, sadly, still absent. In Michael’s mind the only good thing about coming to Gram’s house is to enjoy her cooking. Last time he was here
