Read the case. The case is used as background information. You do not have to address any issues or questions posed in the case. This assignment, instead, specifies what is required. Download Excel template from class web site. The numbers in the provided template may not match the printed case provided or the tutorial video. Use the numbers from the template. Add "% change" and "common size" columns in the worksheet. Read the case carefully. In your explanations, you should see several themes arise. If you can spot these themes, you can choose those ratios and variables which best demonstrate the event you discovered by carefully reading the case. This allows you to re-use the theme as an explanation for trends in several different ratios. Students are encouraged to perform one ratio write-up and submit for review before proceeding. This will insure that you're on the right track. The latest request for review should come no later than 48 hours before due date. Only two reviews per student or team. This Project gives a large share of total grade based on your writing style. 'Running the numbers' is important, but the ability to explain is even more so. You should assume the reader has little knowledge of finance, so should explain things using common language and not technical finance terms. Review the description of ratios in the text (chapter 13) in preparation for this analysis. It will remind you about the mechanics of the work. last revision date: 2010.02.28 (P4_assignment.doc) page 1 of 7

HSA4170.Spring 2010 Healthcare Finance Project 4 &5 Assignment 2 Project 4 2.1 Topics to Address First, select three ratios from the "Financial Statement Analysis: Ratios" section of the worksheet. Select no more than one from each heading (profitability, liquidity, debt management, asset management and other). (Do not use deductible ratio.) For each selected ratio, address the following: Briefly describe the measure in simple terms. Describe how it is computed, and state what it is telling you and give a simple example. Note that it is helpful to describe and give an example. IE – The deductible ratio shows the percent of each dollar billed that is written off due to contractual allowances. For example, we may bill Medicare $1000, but if they only pay $800, we have a 20% deduction. How does the 2002 measure compare with industry standards? Is it good or bad to be above/below industry standards?

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
