Hinduism o 4 desires: pleasure, success, duty, moksha o Brahamin within the human spirit Three threats to joy: Physical pain, frustration from not getting desires, and boredom with life Physical pain can be overcome Pyschological pain can be looked at differently if you look at your loss as someone else’s gain Boredom with life can be overcome with detachment Second limitation: ignorance Removed by attaining knowledge, mind like iceberg not all can be seen Third limitation: limited body Overcome by understanding that human has untapped potential, like a king w/ amnesia o 4 Paths to the Goal Yoga: based on personality types Jnana yoga: Reflective through knowledge by listening, thinking, and pushing self- identification to their path Bhakti yoga: Emotional, through love Karma yoga: Active, through work. Karma yoga can practiced in jnana (identifying oneself with the Absolute at the core of every being) or bhakti (affection to personal God distinct from the person).
