Many organizations have tackled this exact problem by opening distribution channels for cheaper high quality drugs, training locals with life ­saving health knowledge and establishing faster communication avenues from patient to doctor. This is extremely important work that helps reduce barriers to access of care. There is a century ­old proverb, “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink”. It is certainly true that the water, in this case, the products and services to boost health, are the basic necessity and overarching goal. However, having the water ­ building clinics, stocking medicine, etc ­ cannot be beneficial without proper attainability and use.
