will be doing experiments from the first column on the schedule (below), and must come
to the Tuesday 8:30 a.m. discussion hour. Those in the B section will work on the second
column and must come Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
Discussion section will be used (a) to discuss the experiment to be performed during
the week, and (b) to present and discuss data collected the previous week. The goal of
the latter being to encourage students to think about their data and become familiar
enough with the scientific vocabulary, compound names, and equipment to the point
where your can easily talk about it in front of peers. Starting the second week (April 8,
2014) 2-3 groups will be assigned to deliver a 10 min presentation/discussion, according
to a schedule that will be posted at the beginning of the quarter. Groups will consist of
two lab partners. Presenters are encouraged to use graphs, reactions schemes (prepared
with Chemdraw, or some equivalent program), and/or Tables inserted into Powerpoint in
order to communicate their results, and to email their presentation to Professor Kovacs at
