Leonardo da Vinci, Mona Lisa, c. 1503- 1505, oil on panel • This is the most famous painting in the world • There is a tenderness in the figure that is only enhanced by da Vinci’s use of technique o Sfumato, shading, the delicacy of the brush strokes, etc. Note: Michelangelo, unlike every other High Renaissance painter, was extremely aware of his genius, and he was very scared of this title. He constantly felt as though he could never live up to the expectations that were put upon him. He constantly questioned his talent and artistic ability.
