Colloids: contain medium sized particles, can be separated by a semi-permeable membrane. Cannot be filtered. Suspensions: contains large sized particles, can be filtered, heterogeneous mixture. Homogeneous mixture: indistinguishable parts. o Solvent: substance present in greater amount. Solid, liquid or gas. o Solute: substance present in lesser amount. Solid, liquid or gas. Water: H 2 O, a polar molecule. o Oxygen has δ - charge: surrounds cations in solution. o Hydrogen has δ + charge: surrounds anions in solution. o Hydrogen bonds: hydrogen bonded to N, O or F.
