Stages and platforms also present a similar potential from collapse and falls. In an effort to assure the safety of occupants, and to comply with the Michigan Building Code, a permit procedure has been established that applies to all tents and temporary structures erected for public use in the City of Grand Rapids. This procedure requires that a Special Event Permit Application (found on the City of Grand Rapids website at http://www.ci.grandrapids.mi.us/download_upload/binary_object_cache/ose_Grand%20Rapids%20Special%20Event%20 Application%202008.pdf ) be completed and submitted to the Grand Rapids Special Events Office at least thirty (30) days prior to erection of the tent or other temporary structure. For tents 200 square feet and smaller, and canopies 400 square feet and smaller, a permit is not required. However, the Special Event requirements must still be followed. The GRFD Fire Prevention Bureau will inspect all tents erected for public use in the City of Grand Rapids. Any hazards identified during the inspection must be immediately abated or the tent or temporary structure must be removed and the permit shall be revoked. ! 6 ! " ! ! " " ! &quo...
