Much of the bulk of Chinese philosophy emerged from this dynasty. E. After life 1. The Chinese believed they could communicate through shells, to those in the afterlife. 2. Only the ruler could communicate with the past on souls. It is said that the ruler’s conduct directly effected heaven. 3. All of this is done to make everything one. 4. Transition from Shang to Chou 1046 b.c A. These dynasties transitioned into a much more naturalized and correlative system. B. When the Chou dynasty took over, they negated the belief in one Lord on high and advocated for just a belief in heaven. C. The Chou dynasty rationalized their take over because they had the “mandate of heaven”. 1. They seeked to be in accord with heaven. D.
