Chinese Philosophy Day Eight Notes “Neo-Daoism” Background: First time when thinking is moving out of the classical form. At this period, Daoists were in the lead. However, Daoists themselves were Confucianists during this time. During the Han Dynasty Confucianism became very scholastic, wandering away from its purest roots. Han Dynasty: 206 a.d- 220 a.d -Empire splits into three. -Intrigues in court prevent government effectiveness. -Peasant unrest. I. Three Kingdoms Period A. The eastern and western Jin periods followed this. B. Followed by the Northern and Southern dynasties period. C. There is a resurgence of Neo-daoism arts and aesthetics. D. Neo-daoism resurged as a metaphysics. II. Neo-daoism: Pure conversation
