Ian Grazier April 7, 2008 Do the Right Thing The movie Do the Right Thing is a well made and very unique movie made by Spike Lee in 1989. I was impressed with this movie because it was not only entertaining, but it had great acting, and a very big message. The movie was made and set in the 80s and Spike Lee takes full advantage of this time period (people walking around with boom boxes, people dancing in purple track suits). I don’t really know how to categorize this film; it is somewhat a combination of a documentary, a comedy, and an arts film. The film certainly didn’t use any cutting edge editing techniques or sounds which we recently covered but it seems too me Spike Lee wasn’t interested in that at all, he had something he wanted to say by making this film and he definitely achieved that. The films main message is about racism and how it gets started and how it can escalate. It is also about violence and how it will never be a solution to a problem. Another message in this film is that we are all the same, regardless of race. This movie conveyed these messages in both
