Do-Ho Suh: Do-Ho Suh explores various ideas in regard to identity and stereotypes that include many concepts derived from his own personal experiences and perspective. He makes a number of references to his past life and where he comes from in Korea, and he uses that identity in his artwork. Suh also deals with other topics, such as his art piece, which relates to his time in the Korean Army. He created a brilliant sculpture out of dog tags to bring attention to that aspect of his life. Additionally, Suh used various fabrics and sewing methods to create a model of his parents' home, which he then set up in his own residence. Such pieces relate to the idea of “place” due to his attempt to recreate the culture and aura of his homeland, Korea, in a country of foreign nature. Since many individuals endure homesickness when they leave their family or culture for an extended period of time, this is a universally relatable feeling.
