Lumumba's mutilated corpse initiates the narration that runs through the film. He reminds his early days as a beer salesman, a trade that helps him grow an aptitude for talking and management. As it occurs, the beer he endorses has a rival owned by Joseph Kasa Vubu, who later becomes president while Lumumba is named prime minister and minister of defense. It is Kasa Vubu who eventually orders thearrest that leads to Lumumba's murder.Raoul Peck’s Lumumba is a story of the escalation to power and murder ofthe leader of the independent Congo, Patrice Lumumba.
