Unformatted text preview: Cailin Johnson-Smart Midterm Response Essay A #2 April 29th 2007 Section C Andrea Wang Write an essay on the process of Jewish assimilation. Use examples from the assigned reading. The definition of assimilation is the process whereby individuals or groups of differing ethnic heritage are absorbed into the dominant culture of a society. Usually they are immigrants or hitherto isolated minorities who, through contact and participation in the larger culture, gradually give up most of their former culture traits and take on the new traits to such a degree that socially they become indistinguishable from other members of the society (Britannica). The Jews were intelligent and knew that in order to survive in the European cities that they must adapt to the Christian way of life. Also as the rise of Hitler and fascism, so did the necessity for Jews to convert to Christian life and to never bring up the fact that they were affiliated with the Jewish religion. Jews started becoming successful and brought intellectual gifts and economic developments. Jews also had an overall average of a higher income than the rest of Europe. They understood what made Jewish success possible. Because of the success and the high incomes of Jews, the start of the slogan The Jews Are Taking Over started the anti-Semitic movement. Also They have All the Jobs helped feed the angry and annoyed Germans that were less fortunate than the Jews....
