Ethan Kroymann Philosophy 106 Assignment 4 Michael Huemer claims that recreational drug usage should be legal and that the criminalization of drug possession and the selling of drugs is morally justified. Prohibitionists disagree with this while legalizers support this. Huemer presents the prohibitionist claims that drugs harm the user and others and provides justification to why they are wrong. He also claims that drug prohibition is injustice. The first argument, that drugs harm people, implies that the government must prevent people from hurting themselves. People, however, partake in activities such as drinking alcohol and riding motorcycles that can potentially hurt them. These activities are also completely legal. Other activities, such as tobacco pose more health risks and cause more deaths per users than drugs do, but the government does not arrest tobacco users. Prohibitionists also argue that drug usage ruins family ties. Huemer states that people can be rude, push their family away, and ruin relationships but not be arrested.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
