REVISED SYNTHESIS PAPER: THE ROLE OF THE RESEARCHER Reflection This revised paper synthesizes the literature that provided information and data regarding the Doctoral learner’s shift in mindset with a focus on scholarly development, scholarly writing, and academic identity. Putting together all of the ideas, theories, and concepts, while identifying the similarities and differences between the sources to make an overall point. This revision process occurred in 5 main stages. Those five stages are as follows: 1. Reviewed expectations and requirements for this paper, 2. Reviewed instructor feedback from the original synthesis paper, 3. Synthesized two additional supporting articles, 4. Implemented changes and corrections from instructor feedback, and 5. Reviewed new incorporated information material for proper revisions. Stages three and four required additional critical thinking skills, assessment, restructuring, and additional research. In stage four, the process all corrections and feedback were reviewed to implement corrections and suggestions. The faculty feedback stated and suggestions focused on elaborating on what doctoral identity is, providing additional contextualizing in the introduction to provide the reader with an in-depth understanding of doctoral identity and provide additional supporting information for the argument. Stage five was the final review process. Within this process, a checklist was created to ensure all requirements, corrections and, adjustments was made. Openness is an important part of the revision process. As a doctoral learner or professional revision is a great process that allows the opportunity to open one’s self-up to reassessing, shifting in mindset by rethinking while looking at this process through a positive and beneficial lens. 2

Doctoral identity can be characterized as how a doctoral learner identifies or sees themselves based on knowledge, experience, and skills. Identity is an identifiable trait that all Doctoral scholars and academia have, which illustrates growth and development. Scholarly development, scholarly writing, and academic identity are parts of a Doctoral learner and professionals’ identity. There are many contributing factors, characteristics, and behaviors that contribute to a Doctoral scholar’s identity with scholarly development, scholarly writing, and academic identity at the forefront. A particular set of actions can be considered as academic adaptation which contributes to a decisive and effective role in turn contributing to one’s identity (Jamehbozorgi et al., 2020).
