Films such as "Iron Man," "Captain America," "Thor," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," "X-Men: First Class," "The Dark Knight" trilogy, and "Marvel's The Avengers" have grossed billions and are generating conversations. Why do you think people are embracing superheroes at this particular time? In my opinion, people- particularly American people are embracing superheroes at this particular time in history because they are lost- lacking leadership and direction. On that premise, it is reasonably easy to imagine that the viewing audience- who represents a cross-section of America, would seek the comfort of finding enjoyment in watching, ‘the good guys win’ or just being able to live the fantasy or dream that the screen projects. The screen provides mental stimulation in areas that may be troubling in real life. People want to feel good and feel that there’s hope for a world full of trouble. It seems people, in general, can never get enough of the good versus evil concept and when these battles are waged on the big-screen using not just a mere hero- but, a SUPERHERO, things get better and better....
