AP English III Beloved Brainstorming Main questions I ask myself: 1. Does this “decolonization” that Elliott speaks of really begin from a foundation of “mutual trust between individual or support from [the] community?” 2. Does Sethe ever become decolonized or achieve self actualization? a. I agree that Denver potentially reached the point of self actualization through the community- Sethe only ever experienced 28 days of freedom from herself before she was again ostracized b. by the community and underwent colonization through guilt once more 3. How does one become colonized? 4. Decolonization is an individual concept and process, only to be achieved through a person’s own mental capacity and ability to confront memory on her own. 5. Relation to national history: while slavery involved more than just the individual, in order to overcome such personal and national colonization each individual must first recognize themselves as free.
