January 17, 14 Nurse- Patient Therapeutic Relationship Therapeutic Relationship based on : Humanity of the nurse and the patient Mutual respect between the patient and the nurse Acceptance of multicultural difference -using their name -offering choices as much as you can -follow through with your word Reflective Practice self-awareness self-knowledge empathy awareness of boundaries – becoming aware of this limits of the professional role Prevention against being bitter or cold.  Recognition is key: Primary Intervention:  therapeutic relationship – don’t just stay in the nursing station! -interpersonal process that occurs between nurse and the client -purposeful, goal directed relationship directed at best interest and outcome of the client -*clinical: Effective nursing is dependent on nurse coming to know his/her client and  establishing that relationship
