WR150 Writing on Art The “Entering the Debate” Assignment I. Choose to write on either Rosenberg’s essay on Abstract Expressionism or Lippard’s essay on The Dinner Party. Then, find an outside source (one that we have not studied in class) that relates to the topic you have chosen. For Lippard, look for a source that addresses The Dinner Party specifically. For Rosenberg, you may find a source on Abstract Expressionism in general, or on a specific Abstract Expressionist painter or critic. We will be discussing your options for finding outside sources; you may use articles in databases (JSTOR, Art Index, Google Scholar, etc.), or chapters or essays in books, either placed on reserve in Mugar library or from the library’s general collection. (I have placed two anthologies of essays on Abstract Expressionism on reserve.) Textbooks and book reviews are not valid sources for this assignment. A note: chose your source carefully.
