Rachael Pendry AP English, 1.03 Prohibition of specific speech is harmful in regard to a functioning democracy. Removing the ability to speak freely from a college or university setting takes away from the student’s ability to stand up for what they believe is right. Removing a student’s power to express their own opinion “deprives them of their right to invite speech they wish to hear, debate speech with which they disagree, and protest speech they find bigoted (“Speech on Campus”).” Freedom to express yourself and your self-constructed beliefs is “democracy’s lifeblood,” and eliminating that reduces the power of the people (“A Tale of Two Arguments”). “Free speech, according to
