Final list of speech acts is a vain search. - Meaning of any act in comm. – every act has to have context - Think of them in terms of joint action – what makes action joint action? i. When communicating, usually there’s another person. Take another into account ii. You can’t think of things by themselves iii. Even though a conversation may make no sense when looked at individually, it actually can… iv. Connect with the last thing heard. What the previous person said fits into how you’re responding. – Either changing the subject or continuing with it. v. Join with what others said, and think of how you’ll respond vi. Some degree individual (we bring our own knowledge, etc. into conversations) and joint (interacting) vii.
