Kmieciak 1 Zachary Kmieciak Mrs. Boyer English 160 – 18818 26 October 2006 Troubled eating at UIC The University of Illinois at Chicago is known as a “commuter school” having 70% of the students commute from home. Between Monday and Friday the campus is filled with students everywhere, however, once the commuters leave the campus becomes a ghost town. Many places on campus close down and only two cafeterias stay open for the weekend and are open only at a specific time. The Atrium closes at 9 PM while the SES cafeteria closes at 8 PM. Those who live at school have no where to eat on the weekend and can’t relax on the weekend. The university inadvertently forces students off campus on the weekends to eat and lead them to unsafe areas. Weekends to many students at UIC is about relaxing in the dorm rooms. Students catch up on sleep, study for tests, do homework etc. After they are done relaxing many students get hungry. If it is between 4:30 PM and 9 PM then there is no problem in getting something to eat either at the SCE cafeteria or the Atrium. However, after 9 PM all the cafeterias are closed and students have no where on campus to eat. With all the food vendors being closed students are forced off campus to get
