Introduction
Ecclesiastes is a poetic book in the Old Testament. Solomon, who is the third king of
Israel, is the author of Ecclesiastes. In Hebrews, Ecclesiastes means "Preacher." Being a man of

wisdom, King Solomon used Ecclesiastes' book to teach how man is supposed to live in the right
way, which is through following God's commandments.
Chapter One
In chapter one of the book, the author introduces himself. He refers to himself as the son
of David, who was the second king in Israel. He questions the logic of man working hard to
accumulate material wealth and refers to it as vanity.
Chapter two
Chapter two presents King Solomon's reflection of his own life. King Solomon had
devoted his time to accumulate wealth but never found meaning in his life. He also had many
wives and concubines but still could not find satisfaction.
