Include glycolysis (in the presence and absence of pyruvate and lactate . I. Background a. Energy stored in plants comes from the sun, energy is harvested in process called cellular respiration. Energy is stored in the arrangement of atoms. In respiration glucose is broken down in a catabolic pathway to do work b. Energy is harvested through oxidation and reduction (redox) reactions, where electrons are transferred. Glucose is added to oxygen, oxygen reduces the glucose to produce water and carbon dioxide. Oxygen is very electron negative which means that it strongly draws electrons. Glucose has many hydrogen bonds, which have great potential energy (they are not very closely drawn to the nucleus). Therefore the carbon-hydrogen (high potential energy) bonds are reduced by oxygen to low potential energy, releasing energy. c.
