Literacy Beyond the ClassroomFamily involvement in child’s literacy development
FamilyFamilies play an important role in child's successful literacy learning. Family involvement is essential for children's achievement: it increases children's positive feelings about literacy and significantly impacts children's literacy performance. For the best child's education teachers and families must work together
Literacy book bags Literacy book bags are bags with a picture book and related hands-on activities. Your child will bring home sets of books which will match his reading level, a list of vocabulary words for parents to focus on, related interactive activities to share with you, instructions about how to use the packet, and tips for sharing books with your child. You should read the books together, talk about them, and help your child with the activity. Depending on your child’s reading level, you can ask your child to read the book first by himself/herself, read it together first, or read it to him/her. When the story is finished, ask your child what his favorite part of the story was. When you read to your child every day and discuss the book you read together, you promote reading and literacy achievement.
Photo projectsYou can make an excellent photo project with your child and create a digital book of their photos.
