The physiology of Emotions o Certain Emotions can make us more susceptible to stress and disease o More than half of patients who visit physicians have physical symptoms directly caused by emotions. o When worry, anger, and fear become typical emotional responses, health deteriorates. Guilt and worry o Associated with virtually every stressor o Ineffective coping techniques o Perpetuate the avoidance of stress-related issues and prevent resolution o Guilt Conscious preoccupation w/ undesirable past thoughts and behaviors o Worry Manifestation of fear, keeps mind focused on events yet to come o Anxiety Psychological and physiological response to worry
