Pre-Lab Questions Experiment 12: Quantification of Iron in Whole Grain Cereal 1. Measure out 10 g of cereal and grind it to a fine powder using an electric grinder. Transfer the powder to a 100 mL beaker and add water to make the mobile slurry. Stir the slurry with a magnetic stir bar for 10 minutes. The iron should be observed as small black flakes collected at the ends of the stir bar. Remove the stirrer bar from the slurry and rinse the wheat mush from the bar. Transfer the stirrer bar and collected Fe to a test tube. Put approximately 6 mL of 6.0 M HCl(aq) into the test tube with the stirrer bar and the Fe. Place the test tube in a hot water bath for approximately 10 minutes. The dissolution is complete when the solution turns a pale green color. Transfer the solution to a volumetric flask and dilute the solution so that the total volume is 100 mL. Determine the concentration of the Fe 2+ by using a spectrophotometer. A calibration curve is a plot of calibration data, which give the right value of each indicated reading of a meter or control dial. This is a method for determining the

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
