I had the pleasure of conducting two interviews with the Principal Mr. Jason Foster andschool Psychologist Ms. Brogen Olsen of Harbor Elementary School. When looking back, Ibelieve that the greatest insight that I gained was the difference between behavior related to thestudent’s disability and behavior related to bad decisions that was not related to the student’sdisability. Although both individuals have dissimilar roles in the disciplinary process, they bothagreed that their primary responsibility is to decide if the infraction that happened is correlated tothe student’s disability before deciding on what the steps to take next.Mr. Foster was extremely honest and admits that “he does not come from a specialeducation background and probably knows the least about special education of everyoneinvolved in the discipline process” (personal communication, January 29. 2021).
