Are the book of songs or analects closer to primary source… david keightley’s definition of a primary source… What does “Confucian” mean… Apparently the government of china is creating Confucian institutes… for the study of Chinese… In the cultural revolution there was a big anti-confucius campaign… A lot of modern Chinese scholars use Confucian to mean traditional… It is best to tie it to the analects… It seems a lot like reading a whole bunch of fortune cookie fortunes… you may think that there is no main point… Valerie thinks this: the analects is a very malleable texts and can be interpreted in a lot of ways… There is a real Confucius person… he lived 550 to 479 bc… but it is sketchy as to how much we can really know about Confucius the man… Is it a philosophy or a religion… the first follow up question is what is what… religion involves supernatural??? The analects don’t really talk about that…
