IS 1100 Roger Saathoff October 2, 2007 Character Analysis Since I did not read the summer reading novel A Hope in the Unseen I chose to base this paper on a novel that I have recently read. Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle is a novel based on a Lithuanian family in the early 1900 meat packing plants. The main character of the novel is Jurgis Rudkus and I strongly feel that his character traits resemble my own. Jurgis a figurative representative of the immigrant working class in the early 1900’s. He is always a hard worker and is always filled with optimism. I feel that Jurgis truly displays my same work ethics especially as I continue my college career, because optimism is needed to be a successful student at Texas Tech. Jurgis is always one hundred percent determined that he and his family will survive and that they will achieve the American dream no matter what they must go through. I feel that I have this same determination to achieve what I need to achieve to be a successful student. Jurgis is the only one of his family members that keeps faith in success throughout their
