Hist 143 February 6, 2008 La China Poblano is a woman who is mestiza, and she is a sharp dresser,  wearing a special type of dress, and she represents the class of the  common people in a very positive way * It was remarkable how stable colonial rule was * When republics were formed, there were a lot of people in them who really  didn’t believe in them very much A majority thought it was very unfamiliar and were skeptical Had shown a lot of loyalty to the monarchy through the wars of  independence Republics did not have much legitimacy (right to rule)  * Republics needed extra strength to make up for their lack of legitimacy, and  they didn’t have the money or convincing military power Didn’t have money because trade connections of the colonial times had  been destroyed and disrupted There had been a lot of destruction during 15 years of fighting, further
