Jenna Newton Social Problems Fall 2013 Seminar Paper #1 9/20/13 Sociological Imagination for the Future Imagine a world with 6 billion more people. It seems difficult to imagine because it’s hard to predict any type of social change years before it happens. As a sociologist, I predict that 6 billion more people in this world is going to cause total chaos. Although the United States is not predicted to double for another 140 years, they are likely to be effected by the other countries that have closer doubling times such as India in 47 years and Liberia in 24.1 years. The world as a whole is predicted to double in 58 years. What effects will 6 billion more people in the world have on the United States of America? As a 20 year old about to start my life, it is hard to imagine a life much different than I have always expected and as many other people my age have expected as well. As a sociologist with a broad perspective on things, the reality of the negative effects on America because of the increasing population is obvious.
