Running head: DEVELOPMENT OF THE LIFESPAN 2AbstractExploring the development of mankind can be deduced to the intricacies of physiology and science without the inclusion of why individuals live their lives differently even though the process of the lifespan is identical the from beginning to end. What appear to be significant in the various stages of the lifespan development are the many influences that could possibly impact the earlier foundations of development: cognition, the states of psychological and emotional well-being and the physical stamina: that become inherent to health and wellness. What could be realized after a thorough analysis of the significance influences is that physical activity and exercise may be all that is needed for a lifetime of promise and purpose which, in one’s lifespan, may be the missing ingredient.

Within the stages of development are the influences that perpetuate the way humans live their lives through how they are nurtured during the gestation period, how they are cared for after birth to the life they live until mortality. The stages of the lifespan that each person goes through are necessary for development in regards to cognitive, physiological, and psychological growth. Although the underpinnings of each developmental stage have been established in order to shape the individual into a functioning, living being; it is the variances of influences that make us who we are. What has been suggested in order to sustain vitality and decreased mortality rate is the introduction to physical fitness and exercise during the earlier stages of development in order for longevity to be sustained throughout the lifespan. Stages of Development: Significant InfluencesPrenatal From the moment of conception, the process of life has begun. The health and well-being of the fetus is dependent on the care that is taken from the mother while in the womb. Bernstein and Merksatz (2010) posit that prior to conception; the mother should be in good health in order to positively influence the incubation of the fetus during prenatal development. Prenatal care for the expectant mother would include taking the necessary precautions to avoid any known teratogens that could affect the developing fetus. Teratogens, as purported by Broderick and Blewitt (2009) are factors that could impede on prenatal development which include a process ofcomplexities of genetic and epigenetic proportions (Monk, Webb, & Nelson, 2001).
