MATH 294 TA: Vadim Zipunnikov Office: Malott Hall 101 (basement), desk 11 e-mail: [email protected]du Office Hours: TBA, tentatively is two hours on Thursday between 17:00-21:00 at TH 102 (F) 09:05-09:55 Section 12 HO 320 (F) 10:10-11:00 Section 13 HO 320 (F) 11:15-12:05 Section 14 OH 218 ======================================================== Section Grade Policy : There will be 7 biweekly homework assignments . You can re- ceive as many as 70 points for them (10 points for each). I’m going to give three quizzes, each worth 10 points. In addition, you can get up to 20 points for your performance in the recitation section. Therefore, the grand total you can get is 120 section points. At the end of the semester these points will be rescaled to 0-75 scale with 60 mean section grade. ======================================================== Chapter 1. Linear Equations Ex 1: Let’s consider a system of linear equations line l 1 line l 2 y = 2 x + 3 y = - x -→ - x = 2 x + 3 y = - x -→ 3 x = - 3 y = - x -→ x = - 1 y = 1 Geometric interpretation: Two lines intersecting at the point (-1,1). So the system has only one solution x=-1 & y=1. Ex 2: Now let’s consider line l 1 and line l 3 line l 1 line l 3 y = 2 x + 3 3 y = 6 x + 9 -→ y = 2 x + 3 3(2 x + 3) = 6 x + 9 -→ y = 2 x + 3 6 x + 9 = 6 x + 9

    As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

    The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
