This course takes an entrepreneurial approach to building a business in the global environment. Students will work on the development of one or more business concepts both individually and as part of teams. Through projects, they will develop an understanding of all business functions such as management, marketing, finance and production along with an introduction to the career opportunities available to them through Champlain College's "clusters" of career-focused courses. COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the completion of the course, participants will be able to: Describe the characteristics, organization and operations of business while addressing the following topics: ownership, ethics, management, marketing, production, finance, operations, human resources, team process, and planning. Describe ways of establishing a business and the importance of business planning. Identify reasons for growth and change in business, naming important trends in the business environment related to challenge and opportunity. Identify and investigate the scope and diversity of career opportunities in the business field. Discuss the ethical considerations inherent in business decisions. Identify and access standard sources of information about business, including on-line resources. Develop teamwork and communication skills.
