Virtue Ethics and Ethics of Care1.What is a virtue and what is a vice? Give an example of each.A virtue is something that isconsidered morally good and is connected to “moral wisdom”, according to Hursthouse. Anexample of one of these virtues would be telling the truth. Also according to Hursthouse: a viceis a “moral defect”, but often has the negative connotation of being “evil”. An example of one ofthese vices would be breaking a promise. In the Wi-Phi episode, it discusses Aristotle’s views onvirtues, which include both intellectual virtues and Virtues of character. When the two types ofvirtues are put together, they make up happiness. An example of these types of virtues is couragethat comes from scientific and intuitive knowledge. A vice, according to Aristotle, is “derivingpleasure from acting badly”. An example of a vice would be if someone decides to steal whenthey know it is wrong and derive pleasure from doing it.
