Rushing 2 School shootings have numerous possible causes as to why they happen, as well as the effects on the victims can be vast in their differences as well. School shootings have become all too common since Columbine in 1999. The causes of them are always under scrutiny and sometimes politically motivated. One cause that those in favor of gun control pass around is that it's the guns and the ability to access them easily(Yu, 2018). Another side of the coin is that there are mental illnesses as well as psychiatric conditions that make some act on thoughts to harm others whether it be from bullying, being a cast out of society also known as a loaner. Another aspect of school shootings is the effects of them on the victims and the secondary victims. The obvious victims of a school shooting are the students and staff and visitors on campus that have a first hand experience of being present for the shooting. The family of those present as well as friends and the general community are all in my mind considered to be secondary victims. They were not present for the crime however they either know someone that was
