We can only manage the world once it has been storified:
African people are known for their story telling. They can take nothing and make
something out of it, some can take something, spice it up and make it better. Their
stories can teach, excite and even entertain others. Gervas (2018, p. 1) says “a
story is considered to be a particular type of sequential discourse, that includes a
beginning, a complication and a resolution”.
Task 1: (25%)
In an interview format (the layout must be: Question and Answer below), we would
like you to speak to the people involved in naming you and know the history behind
naming you.
Introduce the person who you are interviewing and give us the relationship you share
with them, the language that the interview is originally conducted in, provide the
setting for the interview, materials, and tone. If your interview is not in English,
please provide the original interview and then translate the interview into English.
Provide the setting for the interview (date and time), your recording materials
(WhatsApp, pen and paper). You may elaborate on the atmosphere of the interview,
for example body language, tone etc.
You may use the following questions as a guideline; however, additional questions
will help you increase your marks.
Who named me?
What is the reason or circumstances for that specific name that was given to me?
Does this name reflect my cultural, language identity and personality, if so, give a
reason? If not provide a reason.
