College Rape and Sexual Assault Whether we like it or not and no matter how hard we try to stop it, rape and sexual assault occur all around us every day. The definition of rape from the Webster’s Dictionary is, “unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against the will usually of a female or with a person who is beneath a certain age or incapable of valid consent.” Then, the definition of sexual assault, also from Webster’s Dictionary , would consist of “illegal sexual contact that usually involves force upon a person without consent or is inflicted upon a person who is incapable of giving consent (as because of age or physical or mental incapacity) or who places the assailant (as a doctor) in a position of trust or authority.” When looking at those two definitions, you can point out a couple of similarities that make up both of the words. One of them is that they both involve some kind of forced sexual activity that one of people involved didn’t consent to. Another is that the rape may occur on someone who is under the lawful age to give consent to be involved in a sexual activity with another person. Still, these definitions are very informational and only tell the truth because these activities happen every day and some people just sit back and let it happen. One thing I know is that I would never wish rape or sexual assault upon someone because it could be a life changing experience that could ultimately damage a person inside and out. This could happen just because that one person decided to trust someone to take care of them or because they took their guard down for one night and a bystander or one of their friends decided to take advantage of them. These things come about and will continue to take place until everyone steps up and decides to do something
